Grading Writing

Do you feel lost when it comes to grading or correcting writing? Can you write a decent paper, but have no clue how to grade writing? Maybe you are not confident about your personal writing skills, so how can you grade writing? Where do you start? What is important to critique?

The Write Foundation provides you with the necessary toolsPraise them for all they do right, while helping correct mistakes. You will see your child flourish as a writer as he or she learns how to correctly apply different writing techniques. so you can easily grade your children's work.

Every level has specific checklists for the students to use to improve their work. You will use these same checklists to grade your student’s writing. A teacher copy of every checklist, with suggested points off for each writing mistake, is provided to help you grade. Each skill covered on the checklists is taught in at least one lesson in that level, so both mom and student can easily learn and apply the skill. If you have questions about any required skills, check the Writing Resource folder, which comes with the curriculum in the digital Additional Resources.

When you start grading at the beginning of a level and your child is working on the correct level, grading writing is not hard. Students are provided clear, easy-to-follow tools for instruction which make it understandable to the students and the teacher what is expected in each lesson:

  1. Writing Checklists and No Lists that apply to all lessons
  2. Student Worksheets and Student Assignments that apply to individual lessons.

The immediate feedback your child receives from you is priceless. Praise them for all they do right, while helping correct mistakes. A writing assignment is not complete until grading and correcting are complete. You will see your child flourish as a writer as he or she learns how to correctly apply different writing techniques.
