Assessment Tests

Students need to be working at their instructional level, where they are succeeding while learning, instead of experiencing frustration and shutting down.

When students are working at the correct level of The Write Foundation curriculum, they learn how to write. Placement tests are designed to help determine which level of The Write Foundation is the right level for a student to start learning how to write. These are writing skills tests, not intelligence tests.

When you click the submit button, the test will automatically be sent to Rebecca Celsor for evaluation. She will respond by email with her opinion of what level your student needs to be using to improve his or her writing skills. If she has some questions, then she will respond with email or a phone call.

The tests are designed to show what writing skills students already have and what skills they are ready to learn. The more a student struggles with a placement test, the more he or she will struggle and need adult help with that level of the writing curriculum.

Students learn more when they find that learning how to write is something they can do, rather than something that overwhelms them.

If you want your student to work more independently with minimum help from an adult, then he or she needs to be placed at the correct instruction level. General Guidelines: To accurately determine if a student is ready for a level, he or she should complete a test without adult help, except for initially reading through the test instructions.

  • If a student is confused when he or she sees the instructions and guidelines for an assessment test, then seriously consider a lower level.
  • If a student does excellent on one test, go ahead and take the test for the next level.
